Chris Waller’s promising galloper Rangirangdoo repaid punters’ faith by demoralising the opposition in the Rosehill Gardens Event Centre Handicap (1550m) at Canterbury tonight.

Rangirangdoo was coaxed forward from the 600 metre mark and rounding the bend, jockey Blake Shinn took a brief look over his shoulder before letting down with the favourite.

$1.70 looked like massive overs when the Pentire gelding demonstrated an explosive turn of foot in scoring by three and a quarter lengths from Starry Light.

Waller confirmed that the promising staying prospect will now be spelled in preparation for the autumn.

“We’re not aiming him at anything too big for now,” Waller said.

“But he’s definitely taken the step up tonight and until they do it, they’re all still just horses.

“He showed he’s got some class.”

Rangirangdoo only scored his breakthrough win in maiden company last start on November 12 after being placed at two starts prior.

The placings and margins: Rangirangoo 54.5kg ($1.70) (B. Shinn) defeated Starry Light 53.5kg ($4.40) (T. Berry (a)) by three and a quarter lengths with Baha 58kg ($7) (D. Nikolic) a further three quarters of a length away in third.

The time and sectionals: The overall time for the race was 1.33.73 secs and they ran the final 600 metres in 35.74 secs.

Winner’s breeding: A three-year-old gelding by Anabaa (USA) x Albanella (GER) (Caerlean (USA)).

What they said: “He’s got to win better races than that in future,” winning jockey Blake Shinn said after the victory.

“He went super, he just met one a bit better than him,” said Tommy Berry, rider of Starry Light.

“Will take improvement from the run,” said Danny Nikolic, rider of Baha.

“Never handled the track,” said Hugh Bowman, rider of Agua Corriendo.

The favourite: Rangirangdoo absolutely bolted in.

A special $500,000 bonus is available for the connections of any Dane Shadow two year-old this season that can win Group One STC Golden Slipper Stakes, 4th April, 2009 Rosehill.

The bonus payment is to be split evenly between trainer, owner and breeder, so there is every incentive for precocious youngsters by Dane Shadow to be out and running.
