Chris Waller’s surge up the Sydney premiership list is set to continue at Randwick today, with the Rosehill trainer having a host of winning chances.
“It’s been a good, solid season, and importantly we are finishing it off strongly,” Waller said.
Two-year-olds Deer Valley and Tromso represent the stable in the first race, with the trainer not prepared to split the pair.
“Deer Valley scored a really good win when resuming from a spell so must be in with a chance again, while Tromso is having his first start but he’s a horse that looks a nice one in the making,” Waller said. “Tromso is by Lonhro, which is also the case with Deer Valley. Lonhro’s progeny have been flying so I’m hoping that will continue.”
Waller has Come On Cugat and Bright Mind taking on Mr Clangtastic in the second race, while African Prince lines up in the Testa Rossa Handicap with stable apprentice Mitchell Beadman to ride. “African Prince will appreciate the wet and the claim by Mitch,” Waller said. “He has been lumping big weights, and hasn’t quite been winning of late, but he gets his chance now.”
Waller said Likenothinelsie would be withdrawn from the Black Shoes Handicap, while Altered Boy is the pick of the team in the Gold Edition Handicap.
“Altered Boy has drawn a bit awkwardly so I’ll ask Josh Parr to ride him for luck just the way he did when winning at Canterbury when resuming,” said Waller, who also has Miss Independent in the same race, while First Look will miss the race and instead tackle the Black Shoes Handicap.
Waller rounds out the day when Rangirangdoo contests the final race.
