Irish Import Voice Coach Wins For Waller

Irish import Voice Coach has posted his first win since arriving in Australia with victory in the Harris Farm Handicap (2000m) today at Rosehill giving trainer Chris Waller a race to race double.

In his fourth start since being under the care of Chris Waller, Voice Coach went into the Harris Farm Handicap (2000m) following a second at Canterbury over 1900m on July 1, previously his best effort since racing in Australia.

Voice Coach was clearly the first into stride today and under the guidance of Hugh Bowman, was eased into third behind Gosford-based galloper Saddler Jack.

Voice Coach enjoyed a cosy run throughout and was taken off the rail just prior to straightening for home.

It wasn’t long until the Alhaarth gelding had hit the lead and the race was over.

Voice Coach began to kick clear at the 300m on his way to an easy 4.5 length victory over Toulon Bay with Danzibaa in third.

Today’s Harris Farm Handicap (2000m) was Voice Coach’s second career win in nine starts after he broke maiden status at Sandown Park in Great Britain in June 2008.

He was purchased and transferred to Chris Waller three starts later.

“We paid a bit of money for him in England,” Waller said.

“He’s probably been our most expensive one and he has taken a little while to put things together. I think the bigger track at Rosehill today has certainly been a help to him and obviously the blinkers and a good ride bowling along. It was a nice effort.”

“These English horses, they are very slow in learning. Basically when we get them they are first starters and to win a Saturday race so quick, I think he is a pretty smart horse.

“He had a very high rating coming out of England so let’s hope their ratings are right and he continues to go forward.”

By Irish sire Alhaarth out Caerleon mare Drama Class, Voice Coach is a half brother to Scottish Stage who finished second in the 2006 Irish Oaks.

The race prior, stablemate Vintedge posted her second straight win in the $70,000 Champs Cafe Handicap (1400m).

The Flying Spur filly continues to be a model of consistency. From 13 career starts, Vintedge now has four career wins, six minor placings and approximately $210,000 in prize money earnings to her credit.

Beadman Jnr out to make most of top book

Trainer Chris Waller has given his apprentice Mitchell Beadman a great opportunity with a strong book of rides on Saturday at Rosehill.

The son of champion jockey Darren, Mitchell has been struggling for opportunities since finishing third in last season’s apprentices title but Waller has seen a big change in the young rider’s work ethic recently and expects that to flow into his riding.

“He has been working very hard and as a result he has got some good rides on Saturday,” Waller said.

“He’s really switched on and the ability is there.

“You don’t fight out an apprentices’ title in Sydney like he did last year if you can’t ride.

“In the coming months you’ll see him riding plenty of winners.”

The pick of Beadman’s book on Saturday is last Saturday’s winner Vintedge in the Champs Café Handicap (1400m).

“She has raced in great form this preparation,” Waller said.

“She’s taking on a couple of promising horses on Saturday but that was the case last week and she beat them.

“Her form is solid and with the claim she drops 0.5kg so she shouldn’t be underestimated.”

Beadman’s other rides for Waller include the two-year-old filly Every Man’s Dream (The N&A Group Handicap 1100m) and Likenothinelsie (Lynch Flowers Handicap 1300m) and Music Academy in the Gaypak United Handicap.

“Likenothinelsie’s no superstar but is up to winning open class mares races in Sydney and this race is below that,” Waller said.

“She’s improved quite a bit since her last run and with a drying track her chances are enhanced and can go close to winning.

“The race Every Man’s Dream is in looks strong but she did beat Zingaling on debut and it has come out and franked that form so she’s got claims.”
